Case study 2 – Stonemarket

Stonemarket is Hughes Consultancy’s longest running client with a relationship going back over six years. Part of Marshalls, Stonemarket has long been recognised for innovative and high quality landscape products, but, ahead of Roger Hughes working with them, had lacked any sort of clear brand or marketing strategy.

The Stonemarket business is now a very different one to that of six years ago, and has certainly enjoyed the financial rewards that a clear brand strategy, appropriate identity and thought-through marketing strategy can bring.

Roger Hughes’ work with the brand has been very extensive and started with:

  • Establishing a clear strategy which gave the brand a distinct position in the market and, importantly, this included how it differentiated its offer to that of its parent company, Marshalls
  • Putting in place a brand identity – both visual and language – which fully aligned itself with the strategy
  • Taking the identity across all media and channels

With the above complete, Roger supported the business in its marketing activity and this included:

  • Brochure design and production
  • New website
  • Project management of show gardens – including 2 gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show
  • Project management of successive GLEE trade shows
  • Consumer and trade advertising
  • PR support

The level of financial growth achieved from the above resulted in Stonemarket employing both a marketing manager and exec. However, Roger still supports the business now and is involved in brand-led business development.
